I had no dime on me. It was so bad that the food I was eating had
finished even to the last grocery I had. When some money came into my account,
I did not make a list. I just withdrew it, and went to the market to get the
stuffs. I got some food stuffs that I had in mind before the money came in. But
then I saw some cakes, cosmetics and some jewelry that I liked, I bought them
too, even when I did not plan for them. I ended up spending almost all the
money I had. But that did not matter to me because someone else promised to
send money to me; so that gave me some sense of security to spend the one I
had. But later to my greatest surprise, I got a call from the person that he
will not be able to send it to me as planned. I was so confused and devastated.
I wished I saved something from the last one I had.
Saving your money does not mean that you do not have the ability
to "flex" as some people would think. It means that you are wise
enough to know that there are times there might be nothing coming in and you
can fall back on the one you have left. Many people have the mentality of
impressing others by spending all they have in an extravagant way. Guys spend
for their girls or other girls without having a percentage saved for the rainy
day. Guys have been dared to spend just to see the biggest spender among them
and they end up becoming bankrupt. That is why it is important
to get rid of people who do not contribute positively to your life, because
they end up taking you away from your achievements.
There are good ways you can save your money;
SAVE FROM YOUR SHOPPING
Make a list
Package the money you intend to spend and
take only that with you. No credit card.
SAVE MONEY FROM ELECTRICITY AND FROM WATER
Turn off electrical appliances at the
power point.
Keep your curtains or blinds drawn at
night to keep the heat in.
Use energy-efficient light bulbs
Turn on the washing machine and the
dishwasher only when they are full
Use a door snake under the door
Turn off the TV and computer when no-one
is using it
Use grey water from your washing machine
or shower to water your plants
Install a water efficient shower head
Wash clothes with cold water
SAVE MONEY WITH A FRIEND
It can be distracting when you have the
mind of saving and the people around you have the mind of spending. Be with
people who can put you on a challenge on who can save money the most.
SAVE ON CLOTHES
If you buy something, make sure it goes
with at least two other things in your wardrobe so you can get a few different
outfits out of one item
If you're buying clothes, check if you can
wash them to avoid dry cleaning bills
You can also check op-shops and local
markets for bargains instead of going to the boutique all the time
SAVE MONEY FROM WEDDING
Talk about the money you intend to spend
with your partner to avoid debt and unnecessary stress when you want to start
your married life.
If there are other contributors to the
wedding, ask them what they want to contribute so that you can add that to the
one you and your partner want to spend.
Work within that budget. Remember it is
not about the wedding. The most important thing is your marriage.
If you don't have any money put aside you
will need to start a savings plan. You can use our savings goal calculator to
create this plan.
Prioritize your dream
Prioritize those aspects of your wedding
that are most important to you. Use your budget to juggle your priorities. Can
you happily wed without a photo-booth but would love a wedding car? Write a
list to help you figure out what really matters and what doesn't. By
compromising in some areas, you can afford to splurge (or spoil yourself) with
others.
Have an out of season wedding
Is your heart set on having your wedding
at a restaurant or reception center? If so, consider a winter wedding and
expect to save a third of the price. A summer package of $120 per head at a
wedding reception center can easily become $80 over winter. Venues and guests
are also more available during the cooler months.
Car
Cut your car hiring costs by finding a
reception venue that will also hold your wedding ceremony or choose a reception
venue close to the church or park you want to get married in. Alternatively,
ask a friend who has a nice car to drive you to the wedding.
Save money from drinks
Find a venue that offers an all-inclusive
food and beverage package, as you may save taking that option. Try to avoid
paying for alcohol on consumption at reception venues as the bill can skyrocket
on the night.
Cut your cake, guest list, bridal cost
If you are at a reception venue you can
scrap the dessert course and just have your wedding cake for dessert.
Be tough when you are working out your guest
list. Ask yourself: 'Is this person an active part of my life?' before you add
them to the list. You can save a lot on venue costs by inviting less people.
If you reduce the number of people in your
bridal party, you will need less bridal cars, less bouquets and less floral
button holes. Consider giving the people who are not in your bridal party other
important jobs, like ushering or doing a reading or a speech.
Also when you are buying things for your
wedding try not to tell the suppliers the item is for a wedding. You may get it
a little cheaper. Of course, this will only work for items that are not
obviously wedding items.
Spread out your wedding
Try spreading out your wedding bills
across the year. When you book cars, flowers, venues, suits or dressmaking,
arrange the payments for different times. This will reduce your temptation to
put everything on credit.
CHANGE ONE HABIT AND SAVE
Lock up your credit card for a month and
only pay for things with cash
Set a limit for birthday and Christmas
presents or give homemade gifts
Give up drinking coffee or cut down on
alcohol - it may sound scary but it will save you money and can have health
benefits
Make your lunch at home
All these are ways you can cut down on
expenses and save your money. we all need wisdom to take right decisions
concerning our finances; that can be beneficial to us at the end of the day
