QUEST FOR POWER

Power is the ability to direct or influence the behavior of others or the course of events. It can be able to control and make things happen without having to work for it. Power can be seen in different spheres of life.
In our work places- the boss
School - the teachers and principals
Politics - the government
Health - doctors
Law - judge
In our countries - the president
Even in church - pastors and leaders.
God has given man dominion over everything. So the quest for power, to rule over some things or people is in every one of us. We all want to be leaders of something or people and not under anyone; we want to be heard and recognized. Recognition brings power. That is why most people are carried away by what they stand to gain when they are in leadership. For people who do not understand that authority comes with responsibilities, they abuse the position and opportunity given to them by using it to oppress and take advantage of their followers. Powers in the world today, most especially in politics have been corrupted, all for selfish reasons. They lie during their campaigns just to get the vote of the people for them to get the position, and after they have successfully attained it, the rest is history. Power can be very intoxicating; people have gotten themselves involved in dirty things just to have that control. Why can't people do dirty things to control animals? It is because there is no need. An animal do not have a soul, will or thinking faculty. Man is a complicated being and we have evolved in our physical environment and also our mind. So controlling man gets more difficult by the day; and in that case some politicians, who do not understand the true meaning of leadership, do some dirty things and shady deals to be able to subdue the human complicated mind and take over their will.
This is also seen in our churches also; so many forms of politics have corrupted the minds of our pastors. They also want power to lead and be respected, acquire so much luxury and wealth instead of the way of the old-rugged cross.
I was talking with some people and I asked them what they will do when they go into politics. They told me that they will steal the funds of the country as payback for what the previous leaders did. I told them, "but the masses will suffer". They said that if the masses were given the opportunity to go into politics that they would do the same thing. So why should they care? I was shocked and it was clear to me that leaders are role models. Everyone wants to be on top for different reasons, but what is the essence if you cannot use it for the same people who believed in you and voted for you to be there. That is where the betrayal sets in.
